Read My Lips!  “No taxes under…”

On September 12, 2008 candidate Obama assured Americans there would be no tax increases for families earning less than $250,000 annually.  16 days after taking office he increased the federal excise tax on cigarettes by 156%.  The median income of smokers is $36,000 per year.

There’s One Born Every Minute!

There’s One Born Every Minute!

FDR won his first two terms by attacking the wealthy and pitting them against poor Americans.  In 1932 he promised to “cut government operations by 25% and lower taxes”, but did neither.

In 1936, he overwhelmingly won by raising taxes on the rich then redistributing the money to larger voting blocks in swing states using the WPA, Silver Purchase Act and the Agricultural Act.

By 1940, needing businesspeople to win the war, he called for unity among the same people he divided and won another decisive victory.

In 1944, FDR sidestepped laws prohibiting union money in elections by forming the nation’s first Political Action Committee.  This provided urban labor support. Fearing a backlash by Japanese prisoners if released from internment camps, he created an executive order to keep them imprisoned until 3 days after the elections.  To gain the Polish American vote, FDR promised special treatment for Poland after the war.  He won nearly 90% of their vote, and then betrayed the group by failing to offer the promised “self-determination” for Poland at the Yalta conference.  Still, he won a fourth slim victory.

Upon his death, the NYT wrote, “Men will thank God on their knees 100 years from now FDR was in the White House.”!

Law to Protect Drilling Now Stops it!

Drill. No, Don’t Drill!

The Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act of 1953 originated to ensure our coasts would be available for harvesting of minerals and oil drilling. A 1978 amendment reversed the Act by enabling the government to prevent offshore drilling if it even suspectedthere could be marine damage.  In 2011, a rejected House Bill attempted to amend the law again, this time to forever prohibit all drilling.

Gulf Moratorium Costs $3 Billion

The Gulf Region Economy Lost $3 Billion Following the BP Disaster

According to a report by Pro. Joseph Mason, the loss was not cleanup related, but rather from the oil moratoriums and lost jobs resulting from the Obama administration’s response to the disaster.

Valdez Cleanup Worsened Oil Disaster.

Cleanup Efforts May Have Worsened the Exxon Valdez’ Impact on Nature

Oil is 100% organic and biodegradable.  The 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill would have been naturally cleansed by the calm waters of Prince William Sound, as occurred following the BP Gulf disaster. Instead, sensationalist photos of dying wildlife caused groups to hasten the cleanup using high pressure hoses spraying hot water.  This disturbed and destroyed the coastal microbial organisms necessary to facilitate the biodegradation process making it harder for wildlife to survive.

Hollande Vote

France’s New President Hollande Did Not Win the Battle of Ideas

According to French polling firm, Ifop, 73% of Hollande supporters did not vote for his Socialist policies, but rather to punish former president Sarkozy for his lavish lifestyle.  Only 43% of voters actually agreed with the Socialist candidate’s ideas.

FDR’s First Words

Are these the Words of a Leader?

According to FDR’s butler, the former president’s first words upon hearing of the Pearl Harbor attack were: “Oh my God!  How did it happen?  I will go down in disgrace!”

Taxing the Rich

Taxing the Rich Can’t Balance the Budget

The problem is, there aren’t enough of them. The U.S brags 400 billionaires with a combined net worth of $1.3 trillion.  Add couples earning over $250,000 yearly, compare to what the government spends in a year and you are in for a surprise. Read more.

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate and the Perfect Party

Imagine a political candidate, who receives little big business financial support, understands the plight of the poor, and promotes free health care.  He praises spending on education and the transfer of inherited wealth to the needy.  Our national hero is a strong defender of the separation of church and state, derides smoking as a health hazard and believes that gun control is the only way to reduce violence.

His party suggests free pensions for the retired to show respect for the elderly, fosters social equity through campus quotas so all students have a fair opportunity to succeed.  This ideal candidate even touts organic and healthy farming methods and is a strong advocate for animal rights.

After running on this populist platform, and with major support from the peasants and the lower middle class, Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist Party rose to power by “consensus” following the death of his predecessor.  His name and party became one of the greatest symbols of tyranny in world history.

Who’s Irrational Now?

Who’s Irrational Now?

Salman Rushdie escaped a “fatwa” calling on Muslims to kill him after writing the novel, “The Satanic Verses.”  Others connected to the book fared less well.  The book’s Japanese translator was assassinated, its Italian translator stabbed, its Norwegian publisher shot and 37 guests at a hotel hosting its Turkish publisher burned to death in the Sivas massacre.  Meanwhile, in America, those who speak of Islamic and Muslim reprisals are marginalized as bigoted, irrational or “Islamaphobic”!

Totalitarian Liberals?

Totalitarian Liberals?

In a June 1940 speech, Herbert Hoover, comparing the New Deal to European governance said, “These men thought they were liberals … [they] could have economic dictatorship by bureaucracy and at the same time preserve free speech, orderly justice and free government.  They can be called the “totalitarian liberals.”

FDR Policies Prolonged the Great Depression By 7 Years

FDR’s Policies Prolonged the Depression by 7 Years

Two UCLA economists have discovered why the Great Depression lasted for nearly 15 years and why the U.S., after five years of the New Deal, had worse unemployment than all but three industrial nations.

The two claim the data clearly shows the economy was poised for recovery but was stalled by misguided policies including artificial stimulus and bolstering of labor’s wages.

“The fact that the Depression dragged on for years convinced generations of economists…that capitalism could not be trusted…and that significant government intervention was required…” “Ironically,” write the authors, “our work shows that the recovery would have been very rapid had the government not intervened.”

Did you know that 38% of union recognitions passed by secret ballot in 2009?  BLS data shows that less than 10% of currently unionized employees voted for a union in their workplace.  Here are some more interesting union facts.

The Feds Scrap Farmer Plan

In July, for the first time, the federal government attempted to require farmers to secure CDL licenses to drive their tractors.  In a turnaround, the Department of Transportaion announced on Aug. 8  it is scrapping those plans.  Read more.

Legal Right To Lie

Candidates Can Lie Legally

Political candidates have a legal right to deceive voters. Yup. It’s true. “Truth in Advertising” laws do not apply to candidates who are covered by the ‘free speech’ clause of the Constitution. But, it gets worse! FCC regulations (USC: Title 47, sec. 315) require broadcasters to air political comments, even if they know they are false.
